RESEARCH

Our faculty leads multiple state-of-the-art research labs, including the Networking & Communication Lab, COMET Lab, Advanced Communication Lab, VLSI-Design Lab, HiDES Lab, Connected Devices and Wearables Lab, CEEMS Lab, VLSI Architecture Design Lab, Robotics Lab, and Radar Sensing Lab.

The research and project work conducted in these labs are also part of several Centers of Excellence (CoEs), including MINRO, CIET, COMET Foundation, and EHRC. The lab’s projects are supported by various government and industry sectors, including the Government of Karnataka (IT-BT), MEITY, NISTL, MSJE, SERB, DST, Intel, Infineon, Micron, Sony, Samsung, and others.

Advanced Wireless Communications Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Priyanka Das

Our group focuses on developing next generation wireless communication technologies (e.g., MIMO, Integrated Sensing and Communication, Physical Layer Security, Energy Harvesting Networks, Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces, and ML for Wireless).

Research Interests: ML for Wireless, Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS), Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), Physical Layer Security (PLS), and Green Communications

Funding Agencies: COMET-IIITB (https://comet.iiitb.ac.in/) and SERB (https://serb.gov.in/)

Connected Devices and Wearables Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Kurian Polachan

Our group focuses on researching and prototyping hardware and systems for connected devices and wearables, with applications in healthcare, consumer electronics, and industrial IoT.

Research Interests: Hardware Security, Edge AI/ML, Engineering Wearables

Funding Agencies: MINRO, CIET, EHRC, and IIIT-Bangalore

High Density Electronic Systems Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Madhav Rao

At the High Density Electronic Systems Lab at IIIT-Bangalore, we focus on research and development in the area of Approximate computing design and libraries, Low power VLSI circuits, FPGA accelerator designs for AI/ML applications, and other emerging VLSI design techniques.

Networking and Communication Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Debabrata Das

Networking and Communication Lab. (NCL) in IIIT-Bangalore mainly focuses on various R&D areas related to broadband wireless network. Recent major areas of work include Power Saving in devices and base stations by New Protocols, multi-Radio Access Technology (RAT selection), Cognitive Radio, TVWS, scheduling schemes in LTE-A and Beyond, MAC for IoT devices as well as secured Transport layer. This lab was created in Jan. 2007 by research fund from Hewlett Packard, Motorola India Research Labs.

Radar Sensing Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Vinod Veera Reddy

Radar Sensing Lab works in the broad spectrum of applications of radar. In particular, the team currently works on problems specific to automotive, medical, and communication applications. The availability of off-the-shelf radars has enabled us to explore new problems and their applicability. We work closely with the industry and are open to collaboration with universities and government organizations. The team and infrastructure are progressively growing to accept challenging problems and solve them.

Surgical and Assistive Robotics Lab

Principal Investigator: Prof. Madhav Rao

SARL is affiliated to EHRC (EHRC) and HIDES (HIDES) at IIITB. The SARL lab at IIITB is a joint work by IIIT-B and NIMHANS. Currently we are working on the development of neurosurgical skill automation, food intake monitoring, seizure prediction, automated injection system, wearable assistive upper limb rehabilitation and exoskeleton device, lower limb DVT prophylaxis device, biomimetic robotic arm, surgical hyperflexible probe, neurosurgical microscope, Minimally invasive Ventricular Assistive Device, Tactile educational Kit, Image guided autonomous drilling tool,
